1st CrunchyRoll Anime Awards 2017

The first Crunchyroll Anime Awards ran its voting from January 3 to 10, announced most results on January 11, and saved Anime of the Year for a live reveal at a viewing party in San Francisco on January 28. Yuri on Ice went into that night nominated seven times. It walked out having won all seven: Anime of the Year, Best Boy for Yuri Katsuki, Best Opening for Dean Fujioka's *History Maker*, Best Ending for Wataru Hatano's *You Only Live Once*, Best Animation, Best Couple, and Most Heartwarming Scene. *A clean sweep, and not everyone was happy about it.*

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress led all nominations with nine and won nothing. Mob Psycho 100 followed with eight nominations and converted two into wins, Best Fight Scene and Best Action. Erased picked up two wins as well, Villain of the Year for Gaku Yashiro and Best Drama, on six total nominations.

1.8 million votes came in from around the world, most of them from the United States, in what was Crunchyroll's first real attempt at a fan-voted awards show. The Anime of the Year result, in particular, kicked off a debate that anime fans still bring up whenever the topic of Yuri on Ice comes back around.

Fourteen categories, one very confident skater, and the format Crunchyroll would spend the next several editions refining. Full breakdown below.
