Synopsis

The Sibyl System scans every citizen's mental state and assigns a Crime Coefficient, allowing authorities to detain people before they break any law. Akane Tsunemori joins the Public Safety Bureau as a new Inspector, working alongside Enforcers who are themselves flagged latent criminals kept on a short leash. Her faith in the system starts eroding as she pursues a criminal who moves through society entirely undetected by it, forcing her to confront what the Sibyl System actually is and who it was really built to protect.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Written by Gen Urobuchi and produced by Production I.G, Psycho-Pass draws heavily on cyberpunk traditions established by Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner while building its own dense philosophical framework around surveillance, free will, and technocratic governance. Its first season is widely regarded as one of the strongest original science fiction anime of its decade, praised for a genuinely menacing antagonist and for questions about predictive policing that have only become more relevant since. The franchise expanded into multiple sequels and films on the strength of that reception.
