About the studio
Production I.G takes its name from its founders, and if you've watched Ghost in the Shell, you've watched their work. The studio started December 15, 1987 as I.G Tatsunoko, a branch of Tatsunoko Production founded by Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and Takayuki Goto (the I and G, in case that wasn't obvious), and it became Production I.G in 1993. Based in Musashino, Tokyo, the studio built its reputation on ambitious, cinematic sci-fi, Ghost in the Shell being the obvious flagship, but it's just as comfortable with sports drama like Haikyu!! or the tense futurism of Psycho-Pass. *Range is the whole point.* Since 2007, Production I.G has operated as a subsidiary of holding company IG Port. Nearly four decades in, it's still one of the names fans trust when a project needs both technical polish and genuine ambition, the kind of studio you notice is attached before you even watch the trailer.
