About the studio
Tatsunoko Production was founded October 19, 1962 by manga artist Tatsuo Yoshida along with his brothers Kenji Yoshida and Ippei Kuri, originally as a manga studio before moving into animation production in 1965. Based in Musashino, Tokyo, Tatsunoko is one of the true elder statesmen of Japanese animation, the studio behind Gatchaman (known to Western audiences as Battle of the Planets), Speed Racer, Casshern, and the long-running Time Bokan series. *Over 60 years old and still one of the foundational names in tokusatsu-adjacent anime history.* Few studios can claim to have shaped both the anime and tokusatsu genres this significantly, especially this early in the medium's development. More than six decades since its founding, Tatsunoko's IP still gets revived, referenced, and remade regularly, a level of staying power that most studios founded in the 1960s simply didn't manage.
