About the studio
Glovision was founded August 8, 1963, based in Tokyo, and its major shareholder is Kadokawa Shoten, tying it into the wider Kadokawa Group. Its business isn't animation, it's post-production: subtitling, dubbing, and sound work for both anime and foreign film and television. *Another one of those companies whose entire job is making sure the version you're watching actually makes sense in your language.* Localization work like this rarely gets discussed by fans the way animation or voice acting does, but without accurate subtitling and dubbing, a huge amount of anime simply wouldn't have reached international audiences in a form they could actually understand. Over 60 years in, Glovision represents the kind of infrastructure company that keeps content moving across language barriers, unglamorous work that's nonetheless essential to how anime actually reaches the rest of the world.
