In Kyoto in the year 2027, shy high school student Naomi Katagaki lives a quiet, unassertive existence immersed in books. Sensei reveals that their entire world is actually an ultra-realistic quantum data simulation called Alltale, recorded by Kyoto's automated archive supercomputer. Sensei instructs young Naomi to form a romantic relationship with aloof classmate Ruri Ichigyo, warning him that in three months, Ruri will be struck by lightning during a summer festival and rendered brain-dead.
