About the studio
If you've read One Piece, Naruto, or Dragon Ball, you've read Shueisha. Founded in Tokyo in 1926 (its roots trace back to 1925 as an offshoot of sister publisher Shogakukan), Shueisha grew into the publisher behind Weekly Shōnen Jump, arguably the single most influential manga magazine in the world. *No pressure or anything.* Shueisha doesn't animate anything itself; its job is spotting the next great manga and getting it into readers' hands, and anime studios do the rest. Given that Jump alone has launched Naruto, One Piece, and Dragon Ball, calling it just a talent scout might be underselling it. Based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Shueisha also co owns Viz Media with Shogakukan, which is how so much of its catalog ends up on shelves outside Japan. Nearly a century in, it remains Japan's largest publisher, and honestly, the source of more anime you love than you probably realize.
