Synopsis

After catching a suspicious camera at a movie premiere, Gintoki gets yanked five years into the future by what turns out to be an android time machine, landing in a devastated Edo ravaged by a mysterious epidemic called the White Plague. Worse, Shinpachi and Kagura have become hardened, estranged solo fighters, and Gintoki himself is nowhere to be found in this timeline. Determined to fix what has clearly gone very wrong, he reunites the fractured Yorozuya to unravel the plague's source, only to discover the answer is buried deep in his own forgotten past. Time travel, heartbreak, and classic Gintama chaos, all at once.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya is a 2013 original theatrical film produced by Sunrise, based on Hideaki Sorachi's manga but featuring a standalone story crafted specifically for the screen rather than adapting existing chapters. It followed the studio's first Gintama film and was praised for successfully translating the franchise's rapid tonal shifts, from goofy comedy to genuine tragedy, into a satisfying, self-contained movie structure. It remains a fan favorite precisely because it works both as a fun, accessible entry point and as an emotionally rich payoff for viewers already invested in the core Yorozuya trio.
