About the studio
Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation, known as ytv, started February 13, 1958 as New Osaka Television Co., taking the Yomiuri Telecasting name that same August and beginning broadcasts that August too. Based in Osaka, ytv is the Kansai-region flagship of the Nippon News Network, the broadcast system anchored by Nippon Television in Tokyo, and it's a subsidiary of Yomiuri Shimbun Holdings, one of Japan's largest media conglomerates. *When Tokyo based networks air anime nationally, stations like ytv are often the ones actually beaming it into Kansai households.* Its role in anime is primarily as a broadcast affiliate rather than a production studio, part of the national distribution machinery that gets Tokyo-produced anime onto screens across the rest of the country. Nearly seven decades in, ytv remains a foundational piece of how anime actually reaches viewers outside the capital.
