Ever bought an anime keychain, trading card, or character CD at a convention? There's a decent chance Movic had something to do with it. Founded in November 1983 and based in Higashi Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Movic is part of the Animate group, the same company behind Japan's biggest anime and manga retail chain. Its job isn't animation, it's turning beloved characters into things you can actually hold: figures, apparel, trading cards, and music releases. Occasionally it steps further in, joining production committees to help fund the shows whose merchandise it later sells. *Smart business, honestly.* Movic won't show up in the animation credits of your favorite series, but walk into any Animate store and you're standing in its world. For over four decades, it's been quietly proving that fandom isn't just about watching, it's about owning a piece of it too.
