Story

Synopsis

Ritsuka Uenoyama has lost interest in the guitar he was once obsessed with, until he encounters Mafuyu Sato, a quiet classmate carrying a broken instrument he doesn't know how to play and a grief he cannot articulate. Teaching Mafuyu pulls Ritsuka back toward music, and the two end up in a band with two older members whose own relationship is quietly complicated. The story handles loss, first love, and the difficulty of putting feeling into words with unusual restraint, letting the music carry what the characters cannot say.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from Natsuki Kizu's manga by Lerche, given earned significant praise for treating its boys' love romance with emotional seriousness and for the strength of its original music, particularly the climactic performance that anchors the first season. Its handling of grief and its refusal to rush its central relationship set it apart within the genre. The series is frequently recommended as an accessible entry point for viewers unfamiliar with boys' love, and its musical sequences are widely regarded as among the best in any band anime.
