About the studio
Memory-Tech was founded September 10, 1985 as a joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation and Tokyo Denka, based in Minato, Tokyo. Unlike most companies on this list, Memory-Tech isn't a creative partner at all, it's a manufacturing company that replicates CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays, the physical discs that carry anime home video releases to store shelves. *Someone has to actually manufacture the discs, and that's been Memory-Tech's entire job for 40 years.* It now operates under the umbrella of holding company Memory-Tech Holdings, Inc. Its presence in anime credits reflects just how much of the industry's traditional business model, particularly in the DVD and Blu-ray era, depended on physical media manufacturing partners working quietly in the background, well removed from any creative decision-making but essential to actually getting a finished product into fans' hands.
