About the studio
Tokyo MX was established April 30, 1993 and began broadcasting November 1, 1995, making it the only TV station that serves Tokyo and its surrounding prefectures exclusively. Owned by Tokyo Metropolitan Television Broadcasting Corporation, it's built its identity around anime, airing an enormous volume of seasonal titles in dedicated late night slots. *If you're a Tokyo based fan chasing this season's new releases, Tokyo MX is probably doing a lot of the heavy lifting.* Unlike the bigger national networks juggling anime alongside dramas, variety shows, and news, Tokyo MX leans hard into anime as a core part of its programming identity, which is part of why it's become such a reliable broadcast partner for studios and production committees. Three decades since its launch, it remains one of the most anime-dense channels in Japan, proof that going narrow and deep can work just as well as trying to be everything to everyone.
