Synopsis
Himura Kenshin was once Hitokiri Battousai, the most feared assassin of the Bakumatsu era, and in the decade since the Meiji Restoration he has wandered Japan carrying a reverse-blade sword and a vow never to take another life. Taking shelter at Kaoru Kamiya's struggling dojo, he gradually accumulates a found family while the past he abandoned keeps producing people determined to drag him back into it. The story balances lighthearted character comedy against genuinely serious material about atonement, political violence, and whether a killer can ever really stop.

Adapted from Nobuhiro Watsuki's manga by Studio Gallop, Rurouni Kenshin is one of the defining shonen series of the nineties, credited with popularizing historical samurai action for a generation of viewers and with unusually thoughtful engagement with the moral aftermath of Japan's Meiji Restoration.
