Story

Synopsis

The match every Haikyuu fan has been waiting for finally arrives: Karasuno High against Nekoma High, the self-proclaimed garbage dump duo who have spent years pushing each other to improve. Kenma and Hinata's contrasting philosophies collide across a fast, brutal, back-and-forth battle where neither side is willing to give an inch. This film distills everything the series does best, tactical volleyball, genuine rivalry, and characters who have grown across years of story, into one relentlessly tense showdown. It earns its reputation as one of the best single-match sports films in recent anime.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Haikyuu!! Movie: Gomisuteba no Kessen, known internationally as The Dumpster Battle, is based on Haruichi Furudate's manga, animated by Production I.G, and released theatrically in Japan in February 2024. It adapts the long-anticipated Karasuno versus Nekoma match, a rivalry built up across years of the television series, and was praised for translating that history into a single, tightly paced feature film. It was a significant box office success in Japan, further cementing Haikyuu!!'s status as one of the most beloved sports franchises in modern anime.
