Synopsis

Edward and Alphonse Elric broke alchemy's cardinal rule: they tried to bring their dead mother back to life. It cost Edward an arm and a leg, and Alphonse his entire body, now just a soul bound to a suit of armor. Desperate to restore what they lost, the brothers chase the legendary Philosopher's Stone across a militarized nation, uncovering a conspiracy involving immortal Homunculi and a government hiding its darkest secrets. It is action, tragedy, and philosophy in equal measure, wrestling with sacrifice, equivalent exchange, and the terrible price people pay when they refuse to accept loss.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is Studio Bones's second anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's manga, made after the manga had progressed far enough to let this version follow the source material faithfully, unlike the original 2003 series, which diverged into its own ending. It aired from 2009 to 2010 and is now widely regarded as one of the greatest anime ever produced, consistently topping fan-voted rankings on sites like MyAnimeList. Its tight plotting, morally complex villains, and emotional payoff have made it a benchmark for what a manga-to-anime adaptation can achieve when done right.
