Story

Synopsis

Tohru Honda continues living with the cursed Soma family, whose members transform into animals of the Chinese zodiac whenever they are hugged by someone of the opposite sex, and Season 2 pushes deeper into the family's painful history. As Tohru's own unresolved grief over her mother's death resurfaces alongside darker revelations about Akito, the family's controlling head, long-buried trauma across the whole Soma clan starts coming into focus. It keeps the franchise's careful balance of warmth and heartbreak, treating its characters' pain with real patience as the larger story builds toward its eventual resolution.

Fruits Basket 2nd Season is the second installment of the 2019 anime remake of Natsuki Takaya's manga, produced by TMS Entertainment, and airing in 2020. Unlike the original 2001 adaptation, which stopped well short of the manga's full story, this remake was made specifically to adapt Takaya's complete narrative, and this season deepens the darker, more emotionally complex material the first season had only begun to introduce.
