Biography
Shinichirou Minami is a Japanese animator born in 1961 whose career began at Studio Bebow, the outfit run by veteran animator and designer Tomonori Kogawa, in the early 1980s, where he did in-between and key animation on Aura Battler Dunbine, Heavy Metal L-Gaim, Urusei Yatsura, and SPT Layzner [1]. Around 1986 he moved to the freelance studio Studio GIG, where he stayed at least through the early 1990s, working key animation and direction-animation roles on City Hunter, Dragon Quest, the Patlabor OVAs, and Ranma 1/2, and later serving as director-animator on Magical Project S, Ganbarist, and Initial D [1]. Specialist sources describe him as a fast, reliable hand willing to take on whatever work comes his way, occasionally at the cost of glamour assignments, though his more serious projects, including standout rotation-supervision work on the troubled 2006 series Simoun, show real technical strength [2]. He has become particularly associated with sports-action animation, most notably on Captain Tsubasa and Yowamushi Pedal, alongside long-running credits on the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, Naruto, and D.Gray-man that continue into the 2020s [2].
