Synopsis

Lelouch Lamperouge, exiled prince of Britannia and secret wielder of Geass, a power that lets him command absolute obedience, resumes his double life as the masked revolutionary Zero. R2 picks up after a devastating memory wipe, forcing Lelouch to rebuild his rebellion against the empire that stole his mother and sister's future. As alliances fracture and his own morality erodes under the weight of his choices, the story hurtles toward one of anime's most notorious, controversial, and endlessly discussed endings. It is mecha warfare wrapped around a genuinely unsettling character study of what absolute power actually does to a person.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 is the second season of Sunrise's original mecha series, created by Goro Taniguchi and Ichirou Okouchi, airing in 2008. Continuing directly from the first season, it doubled down on the show's political intrigue and morally murky protagonist, cementing Lelouch as one of anime's most iconic antiheroes. R2's finale remains one of the most debated endings in the medium, still argued over by fans well over a decade later. The series' blend of Death Note-style strategic manipulation with giant robot combat helped define a whole generation's idea of what mecha anime could be.
