The Franchise That Wins Everywhere, Wins Here Too

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, the first part of the franchise's climactic movie trilogy, arrived with box office numbers that make most other films look quaint, and it took Animation of the Year, Film at this ceremony. It's a fitting bit of symmetry: the same franchise won Animation of the Year, Television all the way back at the 19th edition in 2020, and six years later it's still winning, just in a different category.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, a new entry in anime's longest-running mecha franchise reimagined for a new generation of viewers, took Animation of the Year, Television.

Worth noting: the full 2026 ceremony also handed out honors for Best Director (Yohei Kameyama), Best Animator (Shuto Enomoto), Best Visual Artist (Yusuke Takeda), Best Music (Kenshi Yonezu), and Best Screenplay (Uoto). Those results aren't part of the categories tracked on this page yet, so you won't find them in the chart above.
