Story

Synopsis

Cid Kagenou wants nothing more than to be a mysterious background power broker, so he invents a fake shadowy organization, writes it an elaborate fictional history, and recruits followers who believe every word. The problem is that his made-up conspiracy keeps turning out to be real, and his followers keep achieving genuine victories against an enemy he entirely fabricated. This season escalates that gag considerably, as Shadow Garden's operations expand and Cid remains completely unaware that he is actually saving the world. Nobody involved is capable of correcting the misunderstanding, least of all Cid himself.

Adapted from Daisuke Aizawa's light novels by Nexus, The Eminence in Shadow became a standout isekai comedy by building its entire premise around the gap between its protagonist's chuunibyou fantasies and an objective reality that keeps validating them. Its central joke, in which the deluded hero is right by accident, gave it a genuinely fresh hook in an oversaturated genre. Strong action animation and the show's willingness to commit fully to its absurd premise earned it a substantial international following across both seasons. Its central joke somehow never wears thin across the full run.
