Story

Synopsis

Atsuko Kagami, affectionately known to her friends as Akko-chan, is an energetic, kind-hearted elementary school girl with a deep appreciation for beauty. When her beloved hand mirror is accidentally broken, Akko buries the shattered pieces in her garden with sincere grief. Touched by her gentle respect for the object, the Queen of the Mirror Kingdom appears in a dream and bestows upon Akko a magical compact mirror. By chanting the secret incantation Tekumaku Mayakon and holding the compact, Akko can transform into any person, animal, or object, using her powers to help neighbors and solve everyday community dilemmas.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Akko navigates childhood adventures alongside her loyal companions, including best friend Moko, mischievous rival Taisho, and faithful cat Shippona. Transforming into diverse personas, such as a professional nurse to care for injured neighborhood children, an adult detective to track lost pets, or a soaring bird to rescue stranded friends, Akko resolves civic emergencies with cleverness and compassion. While she must strictly keep her mirror's magical power a secret on pain of losing it forever, Akko learns valuable lessons about empathy, maturity, and personal responsibility, using her transformations to bring enduring happiness to her community.
