Taro Sakamoto was once the most feared and legendary hitman in the criminal underworld, an unstoppable assassin whose combat prowess struck terror into global syndicates. His violent career came to an abrupt halt when he fell madly in love with a convenience store clerk named Aoi. Retiring from assassination, Sakamoto married Aoi, had a daughter, gained considerable weight, and opened a modest neighborhood grocery store. However, shadowy assassination syndicates refuse to let him live peacefully, sending waves of deadly killers to eliminate him. Sakamoto must defend his family using everyday grocery store items under a strict vow never to kill.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Sakamoto takes in Shin Asakura, a telepathic hitman ordered to execute him who instead defects to become Sakamoto's loyal store clerk. Together with Chinese triad sniper Lu Xiaotang, Sakamoto neutralizes assassin teams dispatched by the Order and rogue underworld organizations. Utilizing mechanical pencils, cigarette gum, and shopping carts with superhuman speed, Sakamoto incapacitates lethal assassins without inflicting fatal harm. Confronting serial killers targeting the assassin registration database, Sakamoto protects his suburban community and customer base, proving that his devotion to his wife and daughter surpasses the darkest temptations of his lethal former profession.
Quite a colorful cast of killers (though they're only WOULD-BE killers, when up against Sakamoto.) I genuinely liked Shin, and really hope that he and Lu become a couple; he needs SOMETHING to recompense him for so often being the fall guy here.
