Synopsis
Nothing about Nichijou's daily grind is actually ordinary. A schoolgirl lives with a talking cat and a robot classmate built by a child genius, a teacher wrestles a deer for sport, and the smallest errand spirals into an elaborate physical comedy set piece. The show follows a loose cast of students and teachers through absurd little moments stitched together with no real plot to speak of, just gag after gag delivered with startling comic timing and gorgeous, fluid animation. It's less a story than a mood, one built entirely around finding the ridiculous in the mundane.

Adapted from Keiichi Arawi's manga by Kyoto Animation, Nichijou is frequently cited as one of the best pure comedy anime ever made, largely thanks to its unusually cinematic direction for a slice-of-life show; sight gags land with the timing of a classic slapstick short rather than a typical sitcom. It underperformed commercially on release, which delayed further seasons for years, but it found a devoted cult following online that eventually turned it into one of KyoAni's most beloved cult classics, still widely recommended as a gateway into absurdist anime comedy.
