Ask any anime fan about their favorite opening theme, and there's a good chance Lantis had a hand in it. Founded on November 26, 1999, this Tokyo record label specializes in anisong, the anime music genre that turns opening credits into chart hits. The name comes from Atlantis, coined by Silent Mobius creator Kia Asamiya, which is a fittingly dramatic origin for a label behind Love Live! and the Macross franchise's music. Lantis became a Bandai Visual subsidiary in 2006, and in April 2018 it merged with Bandai Visual to form Bandai Namco Arts, though the Lantis name lives on as the music side of that business. Beyond producing soundtracks, Lantis regularly joins production committees, putting money behind the shows whose music it releases. *Full circle, really.* For over two decades, it's made sure anime doesn't just look good, it sounds good too.
