Synopsis

Violet Evergarden was raised as a living weapon, trained for war and stripped of any real understanding of human emotion. After the war ends and she loses both arms and the major she loved, Violet takes a job as an Auto Memoir Doll, writing heartfelt letters on behalf of clients who cannot find the words themselves. Through each client's story, grief, love, gratitude, regret, Violet slowly begins to understand the feelings she was never taught to have, especially the meaning behind the last words the major ever said to her: I love you.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Violet Evergarden is based on Kana Akatsuki's light novel series, produced by Kyoto Animation and directed by Taichi Ishidate, airing in 2018. It became one of the studio's most celebrated works, praised for its extraordinarily detailed animation and its unhurried, deeply humane approach to grief and emotional growth. The series won multiple industry awards and built a devoted global fanbase, leading to a television special, a prequel film, and the acclaimed 2020 movie that concluded Violet's story. It remains a benchmark for emotionally driven anime storytelling nearly a decade after its debut.
