Story

Synopsis

Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane are both the top students at their elite academy, and both are hopelessly in love with each other, yet neither will admit it first out of sheer stubborn pride. Convinced that confessing first means losing, the two wage an escalating, absurdly overthought battle of wits, using elaborate schemes to try to trick the other into confessing instead. Their student council friends get dragged into the chaos too, turning simple everyday situations into ridiculous games of psychological one-upmanship neither of them can resist playing.

Adapted from Aka Akasaka's manga by A-1 Pictures, Kaguya-sama: Love is War became a breakout comedy hit for its razor-sharp writing, exaggerated internal monologues, and genuinely sweet undercurrent beneath all the scheming. Its blend of romantic comedy and rapid-fire gag structure earned it comparisons to some of the sharpest sitcoms in any medium, and the show's popularity carried it through multiple sequel seasons and a feature film. It's frequently cited as one of the best romantic comedies anime has produced in recent years. Its central will-they-won't-they tension remains endlessly quotable years later.
