Story

Synopsis

In a bleak dystopian future, the sinister Persona Century Corporation has acquired absolute ownership of ninety percent of Earth landmass, ruthlessly executing anyone who resists corporate monopoly. The sole pocket of defiance remains Kabukicho, the lawless, shadowy dark quarter of Tokyo. Here, a subterranean guerrilla resistance network called Messiah wages asymmetric sabotage against corporate shock troops. Balance shifts dramatically when an enigmatic wanderer named Darkside materializes, possessing mystical spatial powers of spiritual regeneration. Teaming up with rebel leader Mai, Darkside deploys ancient metaphysical abilities to shatter Persona Century technological chokehold over humanity.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Nobuyasu Furukawa and animated by J.C.Staff in 1994, this atmospheric cyberpunk dark fantasy adapts the manga written by renowned horror author Hideyuki Kikuchi. Emphasizing moody neo-noir visual aesthetics, neon-lit alleyways, and metaphysical body horror, the film reflects Kikuchi signature stylistic fascinations also seen in *Vampire Hunter D* and *Wicked City*. Featuring an atmospheric ambient soundtrack and evocative voice acting, the production remains a celebrated cult gem representing nineties Japanese dystopian anime.
