Synopsis

Chihaya Ayase pushes further into competitive karuta in this second season, facing off against increasingly skilled opponents who force her to reckon with just how far natural passion alone can carry her without real strategy behind it. Her complicated feelings for both Taichi and the distant Arata continue simmering beneath the surface, but the season keeps its focus firmly on Chihaya's growth as a competitor navigating team dynamics, personal rivalries, and the discipline required to chase the Queen title she's fixated on since childhood. Every match tests how much of her progress is actually real.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from Yuki Suetsugu's manga by Madhouse, this second season continued building Chihayafuru's reputation as one of the finest character-driven sports anime, turning a niche traditional card game into genuinely tense, cinematic competition. The series earned acclaim for treating its ensemble cast's personal growth with as much weight as its matches, avoiding typical sports anime shortcuts in favor of patient character development. It remains a benchmark for how sports anime can succeed on emotional depth even when the sport itself is unfamiliar to most viewers.
