About the studio
Tohokushinsha Film Corporation was founded in 1961 by Banjirō Uemura as a foreign-film dubbing house, and the Uemura family remains a major shareholder over 60 years later. Based in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo, and publicly traded, Tohokushinsha's most notable anime connection is its long-running sound production work on the Lupin the Third franchise, across its TV series, specials, and films. *Dubbing foreign movies and directing the voice of one of anime's most iconic thieves, that's a nice career pivot.* Its business has always sat more on the audio and licensing side than in animation production itself, which is part of why it's not a household name the way an actual studio might be. Over six decades in, Tohokushinsha remains a steady, if quiet, presence behind one of anime's longest-running and most beloved franchises.
