Story
Synopsis
The search for Sakura's scattered memory feathers brings Syaoran, Fai, Kurogane, and Mokona into a flooded, ruined Tokyo where the rules of the journey stop protecting anyone. Revelations about Syaoran's true nature and the price of the wishes that started this journey surface violently, and the group's careful balance collapses. This OVA covers the arc where the franchise abandons its adventure structure for something considerably crueler, and where several of the characters' carefully maintained secrets stop being sustainable. Nothing about this arc resembles the lighter adventure that preceded it, and the shift is deliberate and permanent. The tone never recovers.

Adapted from CLAMP's manga by Production I.G, this OVA series exists because the earlier television adaptation ended before reaching the story's darker material, and it was produced specifically to animate the Tokyo Revelations arc with appropriate tone and quality. Tsubasa is deeply interconnected with CLAMP's wider body of work, drawing characters from Cardcaptor Sakura, xxxHOLiC, and numerous other series into a single multiverse. The OVA is generally considered the point where the franchise fully commits to its tragedy, and it is markedly darker than anything the television series attempted.
