Story

Synopsis

Self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintarou Okabe and his ragtag lab members accidentally invent a way to send text messages into the past using a modified microwave. Small changes seem harmless: fix a typo, nudge an outcome, whatever. Except every message reshapes the timeline in ways nobody predicted, dragging the group into a deadly conspiracy involving a shadowy organization and the legend of a mysterious time traveler named John Titor. As stakes spiral and Okabe alone retains memories across shifting worldlines, the fun techno-thriller curdles into something far more devastating: a story about loss, choice, and just how much one person can bear to lose.

Steins;Gate is based on the visual novel developed by 5pb. and Nitroplus, animated by White Fox and released in 2011. It is frequently ranked among the best time-travel stories in any medium, praised for treating its science-fiction premise with real rigor while never losing sight of its characters' emotional stakes. I started watching Science Gate a while back, but then I left it. But then I started watching again, and I found it's quite a hooked-up kind of anime. You would think it is very sort of old in terms of style, but it's a classic, so if you want to watch then it's a good time capsule sort of thing. It has a mind-bending narrative, a sort of storytelling that goes beyond what can pass as a very traditional anime, and there is complexity, and there is a thriller. So if you love a good thriller and love a sort of mystery in your anime, it is somewhere at a level of Death Note, I would presumably say. So if you're coming straight from Death Note, then you will love it.
