Story
Synopsis
Following their Love Live victory, µ's travels to New York for a performance and returns to find their school's future secured and their own considerably less clear. The third-years are graduating, and the group has to decide whether µ's continues without them or ends while it still means what it meant. The film balances large-scale musical numbers against a genuinely melancholy question about whether preserving something intact requires stopping it, and the answer the group reaches is unusually firm. Every number is staged as a farewell whether the characters admit it or not.

Produced by Sunrise as the conclusion to the original Love Live School Idol Project anime, this film was a major commercial success in Japan and reflected the franchise's enormous cultural footprint. Love Live established much of the modern school idol formula, with its voice actresses performing as a genuine idol group that filled major venues and charted commercially. The film's decision to end µ's rather than extend it indefinitely was well received as an unusually principled choice for a franchise of its commercial scale.
