About the studio
Bushiroad was founded May 18, 2007 by Takaaki Kidani, and if you've ever watched an anime built around a trading card game, there's a decent chance Bushiroad was somewhere behind it. Based in Nakano, Tokyo, the company launched its first card game in 2007, followed by Weiß Schwarz in 2008 and Cardfight!! Vanguard in 2011, and it doesn't just make the cards, it invests directly in the anime that sells them, including BanG Dream!. *The card game and the cartoon selling each other simultaneously, that's a pretty efficient business model.* Bushiroad went public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in July 2019. Less than two decades since its founding, it's grown from a card game startup into a genuine multimedia company spanning anime production investment, idol franchises, and even professional wrestling, proof that the trading card business has come a long way from just kids trading cardboard at recess.
