Story

Synopsis

The concluding entry in the Legend trilogy brings Takumi Fujiwara's early street racing career to its climax, retelling the confrontation that closed the original series' first stage with substantially updated animation. His relationship with Natsuki and his still-uncertain feelings about racing itself run alongside the driving, and the film gives his eventual acceptance of what he actually is behind the wheel a proper emotional weight. The touge sequences are the centerpiece, rendered with modern production techniques throughout. Every corner on the mountain has been mapped by years of unglamorous delivery runs.

The third film in the New Initial D Legend trilogy, produced by Sanzigen and Liden Films as a modern retelling of the franchise's original arc, this entry replaced the early series' dated CGI with contemporary techniques while condensing the story into feature length. Initial D's influence on drifting culture, Japanese street racing, and the legendary status of the Toyota AE86 is difficult to overstate, and its Eurobeat soundtrack achieved a cultural life entirely independent of the anime itself.
