Sophie, a quiet young hat maker, is cursed by a jealous witch and transformed into an old woman overnight. Determined to break the spell, she seeks out Howl, a vain, powerful, and famously flighty wizard rumored to steal hearts, and ends up living in his bizarre, walking castle alongside a fire demon named Calcifer. As war looms over the kingdom and Howl's own secrets come to light, Sophie's unexpected new life forces her to find a courage and self-assurance she never had as her younger self. It is whimsical, visually stunning, and quietly about learning to value yourself at any age.

Howl no Ugoku Shiro, known internationally as Howl's Moving Castle, was directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli, based on Diana Wynne Jones's novel, and released theatrically in 2004. It was a major critical and commercial success, nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and remains one of Ghibli's most beloved and frequently rewatched films. Its anti-war themes, drawn partly from Miyazaki's own response to contemporary global conflict, sit alongside a genuinely charming fantasy romance, making it a film that rewards both younger viewers drawn in by its whimsy and older viewers catching its deeper undercurrents.
Good, wholesome viewing for all ages. Nicely animated, with loveable characters and beautifully told. There is nothing new to see here, but when this movie is so enjoyable, does it really matter?
The film itself has some weak plot elements, but visually it's an absolutely stunning piece that makes full use of this new Blu-Ray transfer. A real feast for the eyes.
If it weren't for the rushed / confusing nature of the last half hour of the movie, this would have easily earned five stars. Still, though, if you like Miyazaki's other films, you have to see this.

You cannot praise this film without praising the director, who is obviously Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. It has a charm that has existed throughout the Studio Ghibli genre. You will love it. Everything is hand-drawn, which is absolutely amazing. Obviously, it takes a lot of time to draw it and in terms of direction, it is spot on. The story is also amazingly crafted, and it is sort of a dreamy world, which is very exciting and fun, and it gets adventurous and everything, so I am really into it. I really love the world that Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki have created, especially this absolutely amazing movie.
