About the studio
Fonishia, sometimes romanized Fonicia, was founded May 7, 2004 by sound director Kazuhiro Wakabayashi, based in Japan, to continue the sound production business previously run by Mig Entertainment (later Kiki). It worked on the sound side of Eureka Seven, the film Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society, and the ONA The Wings of Rean. *A sound studio built specifically to carry on another company's audio work, which is a fairly specific kind of succession story.* The company dissolved in spring 2013, after which Wakabayashi relocated to Yakushima and continued working as a freelance sound director. Fonishia's run lasted under a decade, but its credits on genuinely major titles like Eureka Seven mean its work reached a much wider audience than its short corporate lifespan might suggest.
