An intense, brutal, yet heartwarming and enthralling series about the tough world of boxing and a young underdog's path to glory. For those viewers in the crowd who dislike fighting and boxing, take away a star or two. I still suggest seeing it anyway.

Fighting Spirit
Hajime no Ippo · はじめの一歩 THE FIGHTING! · 2000–2013
A bullied kid finds his fists, and himself.
Synopsis
Ippo Makunouchi spends his days getting bullied and helping his mother run the family fishing boat, with zero confidence and even less of a plan for his life. A chance rescue by a boxer named Takamura pulls him into a gym, and almost by accident, Ippo discovers he has real talent for the sport. What follows is a classic underdog boxing story done exceptionally well: grueling training, escalating rivals, and a shy kid slowly transforming into a genuine contender, one brutal, hard-won round at a time. It earns every bit of its reputation as one of the greatest sports anime ever made.

Fun characters and quirky humor aside, a boxing show lives or dies by its fights. Fighting Spirit's are simultaneously educational, utterly absorbing, unbearably tense, and soaringly cool. Eat that Rocky.
