Synopsis

Following a Pyrrhic victory over a lesser kaiju, Captain Haruo Sakaki and his decimated reconnaissance troops discover that a colossal three-hundred-meter Godzilla Earth still reigns supreme across the planet. Rescued from the battlefield by Miana, an indigenous maiden from the subterranean Houtua tribe, Haruo recovers in an underground sanctuary. The surviving soldiers soon discover that the ruined manufacturing plant of Mechagodzilla has spent twenty millennia quietly multiplying, transforming into Mechagodzilla City, an immense autonomous fortress made of living nanometal. Using this evolving metallic superstructure, Haruo prepares a lethal trap, unaware that the nanometal demands human souls in return.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Polygon Pictures produced this thrilling full 3D computer-animated science-fiction feature, released in Japanese cinemas by TOHO in May 2018 as the middle chapter of the animated *Godzilla* trilogy. Directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita with a script by Gen Urobuchi, the film reinterpreted classic franchise elements through hard science-fiction concepts. The production replaced the traditional giant walking Mechagodzilla robot with an expansive, weaponized architectural facility. Distributed internationally via Netflix, the film earned praise from sci-fi enthusiasts for its intense tactical warfare and ethical debates on cybernetic assimilation.
