Story
Synopsis
Bai Xiaochun joins a cultivation sect for one reason: he is terrified of death and has concluded that immortality is the only acceptable solution. Shameless, cowardly, and entirely without pride to injure, he blunders upward through hierarchies that consistently fail to account for someone motivated by pure self-preservation rather than honor or ambition. His talent for medicine pills, his complete disregard for dignity, and his willingness to flee any fight turn out to be a surprisingly effective combination in a world built on posturing. Every sect he joins underestimates exactly how far cowardice will actually carry someone.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from Er Gen's web novel, A Will Eternal distinguishes itself within a crowded cultivation donghua landscape through comedic tone and a protagonist whose defining trait is cowardice rather than determination. Er Gen is among the most prominent authors in the xianxia genre, with multiple works adapted for Chinese animation. The series built a following specifically among viewers who find the genre's usual stoic, dignified protagonists tiresome, offering a genuine tonal alternative within an otherwise formula-heavy category. Its comedic register makes it an easy recommendation for newcomers to cultivation stories.
