Synopsis

The Yorozuya's odd-jobs comedy takes a darker turn as Gintoki crosses paths with the Benizakura, a demonic blade that corrupts anyone who wields it, tied to painful memories of his old dojo days. From there, tensions boil over in Kyoto, where a conspiracy within the Shinsengumi threatens to tear the organization apart from the inside, dragging Gintoki, Shinsuke Takasugi, and old wartime ghosts back into the light. It is Gintama doing what it does best: stacking gut-busting comedy right next to genuinely tense action and old, unresolved grief, without ever losing its balance.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Gintama' is the anime's continuation following the original 2006 to 2010 run, produced by Sunrise and airing from 2011 to 2012 based on Hideaki Sorachi's manga. It adapts the Benizakura arc and the Shinsengumi Crisis (Kyoto) arc, two stretches widely praised for deepening the series' central cast, particularly the Shinsengumi's Hijikata, Kondo, and Okita, and expanding the show's slow-burn mythology around the Amanto occupation. This season is often pointed to as the moment Gintama proved it could sustain serious, serialized stakes without sacrificing the gag-a-minute humor that built its fanbase in the first place.
