Synopsis

Lelouch Lamperouge is secretly the exiled prince of Britannia, an empire that conquered Japan and renamed it Area 11. When a mysterious woman named C.C. grants him Geass, a power that lets him force absolute obedience with a single command, Lelouch takes on the masked identity of Zero and begins a calculated rebellion against his own family's empire. It is sharp political drama wrapped around giant robot warfare, built on Lelouch's genius for manipulation and his willingness to sacrifice almost anything, including his own morality, for a world he believes is worth building.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch is an original mecha series created by Goro Taniguchi and Ichirou Okouchi, produced by Sunrise, and airing from 2006 to 2007. It became an instant hit for blending Death Note style strategic cat-and-mouse storytelling with large-scale mecha combat, and its morally ambiguous antihero protagonist helped redefine what a shonen mecha lead could look like. The series' success led directly into its acclaimed second season, R2, and cemented Lelouch as one of anime's most iconic and debated characters, still frequently ranked among the medium's most popular figures nearly two decades later.
