Synopsis
Sheeta falls out of the sky wearing a crystal pendant that slows her descent, landing in the arms of Pazu, a mining town orphan who has spent his life believing in the legendary floating island of Laputa his father once photographed. Pursued by both government agents and a family of enthusiastic sky pirates, the two set out to find it. What waits above turns out to be considerably more than a lost civilization, and considerably more dangerous than either of them anticipated. Every set piece is built around flight, which remains the director's defining fascination.

Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Castle in the Sky was the first film officially produced by Studio Ghibli and established much of the studio's visual and thematic vocabulary, including its fascination with flight, its ambivalence toward technology, and its capable young protagonists.
