Story

Synopsis

Rygart Arrow is an un-sorcerer, unable to manipulate quartz in a world where everyone can, which turns out to make him the only person capable of piloting an ancient golem that responds to no magic at all. As the war between Krisna and Athens escalates, his friendship with the king and queen of one nation and the general leading the other becomes increasingly untenable. This installment pushes the conflict toward its bloodiest phase, with mechanical combat rendered at considerable weight. Every battle costs him another relationship he had assumed would survive the war.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Produced by Production I.G and Xebec and adapted from Yunosuke Yoshinaga's manga, Broken Blade was released as a six-part film series rather than a television season, which allowed for consistently high animation quality across its mechanical combat. The franchise's premise, in which the protagonist's apparent disability becomes his singular advantage, gives the fantasy mecha setting a distinctive hook. Its war narrative refuses to designate a clearly correct side throughout the conflict. Its film-series release format allowed animation quality that a television schedule could never sustain, particularly across its mechanical combat sequences.
