About the studio
Xebec was founded May 1, 1995 by Yukinao Shimoji, a former Ashi Productions producer, alongside Toru Sato and Nobuyoshi Habara. Based in Kokubunji, Tokyo, and for most of its life a subsidiary of Production I.G's parent company IG Port, Xebec built a catalog that included Martian Successor Nadesico, Love Hina, To Love Ru, and Shaman King. *A solid, dependable mid-tier studio for over two decades, the kind fans didn't always spotlight but definitely noticed the work of.* Its story ends in 2018: IG Port sold Xebec to Sunrise that November, and the studio shut down that same year, with its operations effectively continuing under the newly formed Sunrise Beyond in 2019. Xebec's run lasted 23 years, long enough to shape multiple anime subgenres, but its closure is a reminder that even established studios in this industry don't always get a graceful, permanent ending.
