Story
Synopsis
Maomao is a skilled apothecary from the red-light district who gets kidnapped and sold into the emperor's inner palace as a lowly servant. She would much rather be left alone with her herbs, but her sharp eye for poisons and disease keeps dragging her into the palace's murkiest mysteries: suspicious illnesses among the consorts, tainted cosmetics, deaths nobody can explain. Her deductions catch the attention of Jinshi, a beautiful, powerful official with his own secrets, who pulls her deeper into palace politics. It is part historical mystery, part slow-burn romance, held together by a heroine whose real passion is, unfortunately for everyone around her, toxicology.
