Story

Synopsis

Seven years after losing her beloved father in a cataclysmic military battle in Tokyo, young pilot Anemone lives a solitary existence alongside her plush companion Gulliver and an artificial intelligence concierge. Now serving as the focal asset for the United Nations Acid defense unit, Anemone is deployed to battle Eureka Seven, a colossal divine entity that has annihilated billions of human lives across the globe. Commanded to psychically dive into the entity's consciousness, Anemone encounters the enigmatic girl Eureka within an alternate reality, forming an emotional bond that challenges both girls to rewrite their shared destinies.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Studio Bones produced this dynamic ninety-minute mecha feature film, released in Japanese theaters in November 2018 as the middle chapter of the Hi-Evolution reboot trilogy. Directed by Tomoki Kyoda and scripted by Satou Dai alongside Kyoda, the movie fundamentally reimagined the franchise's continuity. Rather than an antagonistic test pilot, Anemone was reinvented as the central tragic protagonist navigating parallel metaphysical dimensions. Featuring explosive mecha battles, fluid digital transformations, and an emotional theme song by junior high school vocalist RUANN, the film offered a radical, dramatic departure from original series storylines.
