About the studio
NHK, Japan Broadcasting Corporation, traces to Tokyo Broadcasting Station's first radio transmission on March 22, 1925, and was formally established August 6, 1926 through the merger of Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya broadcasting stations. Based in Shibuya, Tokyo, NHK is Japan's public broadcaster, chartered under the Broadcasting Act of 1950, and one of the largest public broadcasters in the world. *Not exactly a scrappy startup story.* Anime isn't NHK's primary identity the way it is for TV Tokyo, but it has aired notable series, including Attack on Titan, particularly through its NHK Educational and BS Premium programming. A century after its founding, NHK's relationship with anime is smaller in volume than the dedicated commercial networks, but its scale and reach mean that when it does broadcast anime, it puts that content in front of an enormous, broadly national audience.
