Story

Synopsis

Five years after the benefit concert, Saga's revival is going well enough that Franchouchou are named ambassadors for the Kyushu EXPO, with a globally broadcast concert planned at SAGA Arena. Then Tae Yamada gets abducted by aliens and the Expo faces a full-scale extraterrestrial invasion, which turns the group's vague mission to save Saga through music into an unexpectedly literal one. The film keeps the franchise's chaotic comedy intact while escalating its premise to a scale that its zombie idol setup somehow entirely earns. Every absurd escalation somehow still lands emotionally, which has always been the trick.

The original series became a surprise hit for its willingness to combine idol anime conventions with zombie comedy, regional tourism promotion for Saga Prefecture, and genuinely affecting character backstories drawn from different eras of Japanese history. Its unpredictability was always the appeal, and pivoting to an alien invasion for the film is entirely consistent with a franchise that has never once done the expected thing. Its willingness to swerve tonally is precisely why the fanbase stayed loyal.
