Synopsis
Sakamichi Onoda is an unathletic anime otaku who spent his middle school years pedaling a heavy commuter bicycle over forty-five kilometers to Akihabara each week. Entering Sohoku High School, his extraordinary uphill pedaling cadence catches the eye of competitive cyclists Shunsuke Imaizumi and Shoukichi Naruko, who recruit him into the school's bicycle racing club. This theatrical recap film condenses the intense first year of Sohoku's campaign at the grueling national Inter-High tournament in Hakone, highlighting Onoda's rapid growth from an insecure amateur into Sohoku's indispensable climbing specialist against powerhouse champion Hakone Academy.

The movie highlights Sohoku's perilous climb up Mount Fuji, featuring Onoda's legendary hundred-man passing maneuver after a devastating mid-race crash leaves him in dead last. Rejoining his teammates through sheer willpower, Onoda helps third-year ace climber Yusuke Makishima secure crucial mountain points against Hakone's mountain god Jinpachi Toudou. The film includes exclusive framing scenes showing Makishima and Toudou reminiscing after the tournament about Onoda's unexpected talent, establishing Sohoku's unstoppable momentum heading into the nail-biting third and final day of the championship race. This climactic rally confirms Onoda's vital place as the beating heart of Sohoku's unforgettable championship squad.
